Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) welcomes today’s announcement by the Queensland Government of an additional $1 billion in funding for kindergartens over the next five years.

Across Queensland, independent schools deliver kindergarten programs in more than 125 early childhood services, offering parents greater choice and diversity when it comes to deciding where to send their children in the early years of their education.

ISQ CEO Chris Mountford said the additional funding would see families benefit from increased affordability and access when it comes to their child’s early educational outcomes and development.

“Today’s announcement by the State Government and the subsequent funding is a welcome boon for early childhood education and care centres across Queensland,” Mr Mountford said.

“Dedicated funding aimed at increasing affordability for families will have a clear and positive impact on early childhood education. Targeted funding towards the attraction and retention of staff in regional and remote areas goes a long way towards addressing key interests of ISQ members and parents.

“All children deserve a quality education regardless of their age, location or personal situation, and to see $95 million of this funding being used to support families with kindergarten children who have a disability is particularly encouraging.”
