Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) welcomes Hon Jason Clare MP as the new Federal Minister for Education and Senator Anthony Chisolm as Assistant Minister.

Mr Clare’s appointment comes at a time when enrolment figures for the Queensland independent sector have hit an all-time high, with more than 140,000 students enrolled at independent schools.

According to the latest State Census data released this week, independent school student enrolments now make up 15.9% of all Queensland enrolments and 19.6% of all secondary students across the state.

ISQ CEO Christopher Mountford said the organisation looks forward to working with Minister Clare during this period of significant growth for the sector and his Assistant Minister Chisolm.

“ISQ will work collaboratively with the new Minister representing the interests of our 229member schools. ISQ will also continue to work in partnership with Independent Schools Australia as it represents the independent school sector nationally,” Mr Mountford said.

“It’s clear from the latest enrolment figures that Australian parents value the choice and diversity that independent schools offer, with a 4.1% increase in enrolments between 2021 and 2022 in Queensland alone.”

“There is a lot to accomplish in education and we look forward to meeting with Mr Clare and members of the Albanese Government to address the challenges and enhance the opportunities for students in all schools.”
